I create because I can’t not - it is where I feel at home. My process begins with spontaneity and chance, letting inks and colours unfold beyond my control - then evolving my work from there. Each layer is a dance between freedom and form, depth and discovery. My work is both a love letter to life and an invitation: to find courage, beauty and possibility in unexpected places.

At the core, I keep circling one question: how do we become free, to become who we were created to be?

I want my art to remind us that we can face the depth within, transform what is dark, grow beyond what is known - and discover the light already within us. Believing that as we embrace our unique potential, we can shape our lives and the world around us for the better, I hope my work encourages and empowers others to do the same.

Artist Statement

Sophie Smolic is a German mixed-media artist whose practice is rooted in a deep, inherent need to create and search what feels true and alive. Born and raised in Germany, she began painting at a young age and later refined her craft through intensive study with international mentors, including the Milan Art Institute. Drawing from her background in medicine and a lifelong passion for travel and exploration, Smolic brings a uniquely layered perspective to her art - one that merges intellectual curiosity with soulful expression.

Her paintings are created through a multi-stage process of inks, acrylics, stencils, oils and sometimes gold leaf, weaving spontaneity and intention into luminous textured works. Smolic describes her art as “a love letter to life - an invitation to explore beauty, courage, and the light within.” Each work reflects her belief that art is both a journey and a discovery: vibrant, adventurous, and deeply human. Her signature style of abstract realism with expressionist influences invites the viewer into an atmosphere of possibility, reminding them of the strength and wonder already within themselves.

Smolic currently lives and works in Northern Germany, balancing her thriving studio practice with her role as a mother of two and her career in medicine. She is committed to creating authentic, powerful bodies of work and building a life where art is not only a passion but also a sustainable part of her livelihood. Her vision is steady and intentional: to continue painting, growing and sharing her art with those who feel called to it - trusting that this path will unfold step by step, in ways both grounded and profound. She is devoted to exploring the endless possibilities of her art for a lifetime.
